Elder Law

Many elders require specialized assistance in regard to their housing, healthcare or benefits needs, given the unique challenges elders face, such as limited mobility, reduced income, deteriorating health and increasingly complex government benefits programs.

The Justice Center’s Elder Law Unit assists elders with these specialized needs which range from defending against wrongful evictions to appealing the improper denials of healthcare benefits. Unit advocates also work closely with regional social service providers, including Greater Lynn Senior Services, AgeSpan (formerly Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley and North Shore) and SeniorCare, to ensure that Justice Center clients have access to all of the supportive services necessary to maintain their current housing situation or find alternatives.

The Elder Law Unit also collaborates closely with other nonprofit organizations – such as the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Guardian Community Trust – to support public policy changes that will benefit elders in the region and across the Commonwealth.
